2027 Ram 2500 6.4L HEMI V8 V
The 2027 Ram 2500's standard 6.4L HEMI V8 turns out 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft through a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic, good for up to 17,740 pounds of towing when properly equipped. It starts instantly on cold mornings, runs on regular fuel, and keeps maintenance simple.
The HEMI also unlocks 2027's new Payload Upgrade Package, which lifts maximum payload to 4,580 pounds, so a gas 2500 can now out-carry many diesels. HEMI trucks wear a new V8 fender badge this year.

Choosing Between Gas and Diesel V
If your trailer stays under the HEMI's 17,740-pound ceiling and your loads live in the bed, the gas truck with the payload package is the money-smart build. If you drag heavy iron long distances, the Cummins' torque, 20,000-pound rating, and highway composure repay the upgrade every trip.
Both engines come in 4x2 or 4x4 across the trim range, from Tradesman and Lone Star to Limited. Price both against your actual use with the team behind our 2027 Ram 2500 full review.
- HEMI: payload-first work and lower cost of entry
- Cummins: heavy trailers and long-haul miles
- Both offer 4x2 and 4x4 drivelines
- Available across the full trim lineup
- Frontier CDJR can quote both builds side by side
